Beaches

Island Krk is full with reach mediterian vegetation, beautifull sandy and stoned beaches, cristal transparent sea water warm over the whole summer season. The most beautifull beaches on the island lie along the way from Punat to Stara Baška place. Some of them are reachable only from the see by the boat and some you can approach from the road park your car along the road and use some climbing skills. Punat itself offer a variety of beaches from city beach inside the Punat bay suitable for families with small childern because of shallow sea protected with barrier for swimming people to the natural stoned and sand beaches outside the bay. Variety of beaches offer you to find small more private beach big enough for one family or the beaches 15 min. walking away mostly used by naturist.

Your relax feeling spending time on the beach help you pleasant west wind named Maestral winding from 10 p.m. to the sunset. It helps also people able to do surfing and sailing. Average daily temperatures from July to August are appx.23 C, almoust the same as see water temperature that vary from 21 to 26 C. Those are some of the reason that atract number of turist every year to visit our beautifull island also called Zlatni otok Krk (Golden Island of Krk).

Events

Among a lot of events during summer there are two traditional events Puntarska noć (Punat night) and Ribarski dan (Fishing day). During summer there are performances of song groups “Dalmatinske klape“, autenthic folklore groups from island, open theatre, sport events like football tournament and other events. There are also serious music concerts that are held in specific athmosphere in Conventus atrion on island Košljun.

There you can find a number of restorants offering a choice of domestic food specialities and a real big chioce of fresh fish specialities obtained daily by local fisherman.
There is fish market too where you can buy every day fresh fishes if you have ability to prepare it itself either in oven or barbecued.

Excursions

• Touristic path - there are dozen markt turistic path leading you through the woods and along the sea shore. For some of them you can find printed guides that can be certified on mark control points.

• Island Košljun – you can reach by taxi boats from Punat. During summer season it can be reached also from city Krk. Time table from Punat:

• City Krk - capital of island Krk dominated by romanic chatedral tower. Most beautifull is old centar of the city surounded with high stoned city walls, narrow streets coverd with white stoned blocks. Specialy worth is to visit Franciscanus Casttel in the center of city, Krk chatedral and some galeries. During the hole summer on the city walls held is one of the most famous croatian summer fest consist of reach concert program, operas and exhibitions.

• Vrbnik – is situated at the northeast coast of the island of Krk, above the Velebit strait, by the small bay of St. Marco. It is located immediately above the sea, on the 49 meter high cliff, which almost vertically dives into the sea from its north side. Access is very difficult from the sea side, while there is steep road going from the port to the city. It is not a surprise that folk song mention it in the poem “Vrbnik above the sea, high mountain…”. In green vineyards of Vrbnik fields there is even today cultivated very famous Vrbnik Zlatina. We can suggest everyone to visit one of wine cellar in the city and injoy wine you can’t forget.

• Baška – with a long turistic tradition its most visited place on island Krk. With its specific speech and a way of life domestic people are quite different from all other inhabitans on island. Surounded with stoned naked mountains, a narow streets, balkonis and longiest sand beach in whole Kvarner bay atracts to be visited by turist injoy summer holiday in other places.

Recreation

The underwater world around the island of Krk is very interesting, and there are several local and international diving clubs. You can get a diving licence at the local harbor master’s office. You need to present your passport, your diving qualification and pay a fee. To fill bottles you need to contact one of the diving clubs.
Of all the summer recreation sports, the most interesting ones are watersports. Those particulary attractive are paragliding, waterskiing and jet skis.
